Updates on Immigration Law in 2023: Opportunities for Immigrants

As we head into 2023, there are several changes to immigration laws that will benefit immigrants. One of the most positive changes is the expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which was established by the Obama Administration in 2012 through executive action and upheld by the Supreme Court in 2020. This program, allows young people who were brought to the United States illegally as children to apply for a temporary reprieve from deportation and to work legally in the country.

Another positive change is the introduction of the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act (H.R. 1044) which was passed in 2020 and signed into law by the President. This law eliminates the per-country cap for employment-based green card applications, which will benefit immigrants from countries like India and China, who have been facing long wait times for green cards due to the high demand from their citizens.

In addition, we can expect to see more efforts to streamline the legal immigration process. This will include introducing new technologies to make the process more efficient and reducing wait times for applications. The government is also planning to increase the number of immigration judges to reduce the backlog of cases.

In the coming months, we can also expect to see more programs aimed at attracting highly-skilled workers to the United States. This will include expanding the number of H-1B visas available and creating new programs to attract entrepreneurs and investors. This will help to boost the economy and create new jobs for American workers.

Another positive change for immigrants is the proposed immigration reform bill known as The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 (S. 123) which was introduced in Congress and aims to provide a new path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. This will provide a way for people who have been living and working in the country for many years, to come out of the shadows and become legal residents. This will also help to provide a more stable workforce and will contribute to the economy.

As we head into 2023, it’s clear that there are many changes to immigration laws that will benefit immigrants. These changes will provide more opportunities for people to live and work in the United States and to contribute to the economy. It’s important for all of us to stay informed about these changes and to support policies that will help to create a more welcoming and inclusive society for immigrants.
